WATER STRESS IN INDIA
India has 18% of the world's people. But just 4% of the world's water. 85% rely on vanishing groundwater. 40% of that leaks away. Girls drop out of school to fetch it. Mothers walk miles to carry it. Fathers leave villages to chase it. This isn't a water problem. This is a human rights problem.
Parts of rural India aren't just underserved. They're undervalued. A high-need, high-growth regions where brand trust must be earned, not advertised. So we didn't advertise. We acted. We laid pipes where it hurt most. Not as saviours. As partners and enablers.
Change in Frames
The greatest weapon against inequality? Education. In a state where 47% of women don't have access to education, Piplantri stands out as a shining example of empowerment through knowledge as 100% of the girls in Piplantri go to school.
In Piplantri, men and women pledge to celebrate the birth of their daughters, starting a trust fund in their names that will support their education for minimum 10 years as well as prohibiting marriage until they are 21 years old. The current legal age of marriage in India for women is 18 years.
Daughters of Piplantri tie a 'Rakhi' (sacred threads) to the tree as a pact to protect and nurture mother earth just as she sustains them. This practice is a dynamic covenant between the village's daughters and the environment.
With the water level resurging in Piplantri, flora and fauna once threatened with extinction have now found sanctuary and are thriving in the village of Piplantri and its surroundings.
Today, Piplantri has carved a path of eco-independence with home-grown products and crops from a now water-rich ecosystem, thriving with over 2.5 million plants that empower the village's commerce.
